Let the current and the wind guide you as you take in the stunning scenery that can only be experienced from a boat. Departing from Oban on Saturday 22nd June, the robust three-masted barkentine Thalassa will take us to Troon in seven days. Accompanied by the whisky expert on board we will visit distilleries en route.

Just as France classifies its wines by region, Schottland has a regional classification for its whiskies. On this cruise we will visit four of the six: Highlands, Islands, Islay and Campbeltown. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about the differences between the different whiskies and their regional or international characteristics.

Along the way we come across distilleries that date back to the late 17th century and others that are only a few years old. What they all have in common is that they produce whisky using pure craftsmanship and regional characteristics.

Depending on weather and sailing conditions, we may visit the following distilleries along the way: Oban (before sailing), Ardnamurchan, Tobermory, Jura, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Ardnahoe, Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Bushmills, Glen Scotia, Sprinkbank and Glengyle.
For Laphroaig aficionados with a plot registration, this is the perfect opportunity to plant the flag and pick up the dram.

As well as the Scottish distilleries we also make an excursion to Bushmills in Northern Ireland. Although this is English territory, we refer to it as Irish Whiskey.

In the evening workshops we can discuss why whisky tastes like what it tastes like, why one whisky is different from another even though the distance from one distillery to another is only a few kilometres and much more. There will be plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas about the flavours of whisky.

Of course, instead of a distillery, you can choose to experience the extraordinary scenery of the Scottish islands.
Walks are available near every berth. This area is perfect for a short trip or a walk of several miles. Guests should not miss the stunning scenery of the Giant Causeway in Northern Ireland. There are also beautiful walks in the local nature reserves around Tobermory and on Islay.

Nautical life can be experienced in the various harbour towns such as Port Ellen, Tobermory and Campbeltown. Oban, Campbeltown and Tobermory also have a good range of museums, galleries, shops and local attractions.

Wind and weather conditions apply to all parts of this programme.
