Scotland, an experience for everyone!
Exploring Scotland aboard tallship Thalassa
Scotland makes many people's hearts beat faster. The country is known for its beautiful nature and its whisky. Who doesn't know them, the Cairngorms, the West Highland Way, the route along Loch Ness? Mainland Scotland is easily accessible but the Scottish islands are not.
The robust yet comfortably equipped Dutch three-masted barquentine Thalassa, with room for up to 30 guests, offers a fully catered voyage to some of those hard-to-reach Scottish islands of the Inner Hebrides.
On the islands of Mull, Tiree, Colonsay, Islay and at Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula, walks have been set out for the hikers among our guests. These routes are well trodden and the maximum elevation gain is 142 metres.
During this voyage, we pass no less than 11 whisky distilleries. Islay is world-renowned for making distinctive, peated whiskies here. This trip offers an excellent opportunity to combine a relaxing sailing trip and beautiful walking tours with a visit to a number of distilleries. The itinerary docks the distilleries Oban, Tobermory, Bunnahabhain, Ardnahoe, Caol Ila, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia (wind and weather permitting).
The walks and/or visits to the various distilleries can be carried out by each person on their own, but of course they can also be accompanied by Gerard Spaans, our walking guide and whisky ambassador on board. Gerard enthusiastically tells our guests during the walks but also on board about all the ins and outs of whisky, making this trip a true example of "the best of both worlds".
Don't want to spend a day being active? Stay quietly on board with a book, enjoy seals in the harbour or visit the local pub. In Scotland, there is always conversation.
The trip starts from the pretty harbour town of Oban and ends in Troon. On the way back to Troon, the coast of Ireland can perhaps be seen in the distance, perhaps a good idea for another trip aboard Thalassa...
