12- Day Cruise Scotland - England - France
Join Thalassa for an unforgettable voyage from the Scottish town of Troon via Irish and English destinations to the French town of Brest. We will embark on Scottish soil at 4pm on Saturday 29 June 2024 and disembark on the French mainland on Wednesday 10 July. During this voyage we will explore some of Scotland's most beautiful islands, headlands and mainland. On the final leg of our voyage, we will prepare for the magnificence of French waters and cross the Channel.
Sailing is at its best when the wind leads and we follow its direction. When and if we call at certain ports will therefore depend on the weather. Either way we will give you an unforgettable experience of both sailing and life on land. We sail day and regularly night to the most enchanting destinations. The itinerary below gives an idea of a possible/probable itinerary. The wind will determine our final stops.
Programme
On board in Troon, Scotland
On Saturday, you will board at Troon harbour. Here, the captain and his crew will give you a warm welcome. You will be assigned a cabin, introduced to the ship and shown the ins and outs of life on board. That evening we depart for Isle of Man (British Crown property). Here we stay on Sunday, giving you the opportunity to explore the island during the day.
Isle of Man
UNESCO awarded Isle of Man "Biosphere Reserve status" in 2016. Besides its beautiful nature and rich history, the island is world-famous for its regulated street racing and historic public transport: electric and horse-drawn trams and old steam trains. During the day, you will have time to visit beautiful natural villages like Port Erin or the village of Peel with its medieval castle and cathedral. A local speciality is the Manx Spirit, the whisky-based spirit for which Isle of Man is famous. Prefer to stay on board? Then this is a great time to spot basking sharks and dolphins. In the evening we sail on to Dublin.
Dublin
On Tuesday we spend the day and evening visiting the Irish capital, Dublin. Dublin is home to Ireland's oldest university and is world famous for its Guinness beer. Other attractions include a great shopping area around Henry Street and the Leprechaun Museum about Ireland's mythological creatures. Wander the distinctive streets and feast your eyes. We spend the night in Dublin and depart for Skomer Island the following morning.
Skomer Island
On Wednesday we travel to Skomer Island in Wales. Rugged, rocky yet tranquil with beautiful scenery. On Thursday there is plenty of time during the day to explore Skomer Island. The island is of volcanic origin which can still be seen in the rocks. It is a good habitat for puffins and you may be lucky enough to see them flying over the water. In the evening we sail on to the Scilly Isles (British Crown Property), a magically beautiful archipelago.
Isles of Scilly
Island hopping is in the air as we arrive in the Isles of Scilly on Friday evening. A stunning archipelago, they can rightly be called sea islands. There are plenty of footpaths, hidden coves and caves, ancient villages and archaeology to explore on land. On Saturday you will have the opportunity to explore St Mary, the largest island in the archipelago.
The crossing to France: L'Aber Wrac'h
On Sunday we make the biggest crossing yet, crossing the English Channel into French waters. From whisky to wine and haggis to camembert. French delicacies on this trip are found in L'Aber Wrac'h, a Scottish-sounding village in Brittany. We set foot on French soil on Monday. As well as the contrast with Scotland, the village has a contrast of its own. L'Aber Wrac'h is where the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels) and the Pont du Diable (Devil's Bridge) meet. The Lighthouse Trail is a great way to get an overview of this special village.
Disembarking in Brest, France
On Tuesday we sail on to Brest, the final destination of this cruise. Brest is France's most important naval port and has been uniquely rebuilt in many places after being bombed during the Second World War. On Wednesday morning, the Captain and crew will be ready to say goodbye to guests by 10am.
