Programme

Wind and weather permitting, the captain and his crew will do their utmost to ensure you have an unforgettable voyage that achieves as many of the defined travel goals as possible.

Guests will board in Troon on Saturday 17 August around 16.00. Guests are introduced to the ins and outs of the ship by the captain and his crew, cabins are assigned (and luggage unpacked). A relaxed evening in Troon where guests can also get to meet each other, enjoying a drink at the bar.

We start Sunday for a day of blissful sailing to Ballycastle and arrive late in the day. On Sunday evening e/o Monday morning, guests can visit Ballycastle and its Giant Causeway on the Irish coast. This rock formation consists of some 40,000 basalt columns and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Giant Causeway is thought to have been formed in a volcanic eruption some 60 million years ago and was, among other things, the setting for film shoots of the famous HBO series Game of Thrones.

In the afternoon, sails will be set, with the destination being Port Ellen. Port Ellen is a charming village with pretty whitewashed terraces.

The Port Ellen distillery was closed in 1983 and converted into a large malting plant. Since then, the Port Ellen name has become known as one of Scotland's great "lost distilleries. On Tuesday, a day will be spent on Islay. From Port Ellen, several walks can be done to, among others, the Carraig Fhada and the Singing Sands and the megaliths of Islay. The Carraig Fhada lighthouse is an iconic building built in the 1930s. In addition, from Port Ellen, the three distilleries Laphoaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg can be visited on foot. On the grounds of Laphroaig, members of the Laphroaig can plant the flag and collect the famous glass of whisky. Ardbeg distillery, apart from its very good whisky, is known for its excellent cuisine.

In the evening, depending on the wind, we will sail through the "Sound of Jura" (with a stopover in Port Askaig), or continue the journey along the west coast towards the north.
The Sound of Jura, (Scottish Gaelic: An Linne Rosach) is a strait in Argyll and Bute. This is where George Orwell lived between 1946 and 1949 at Barnhill, a farm in the north-east of the island, where he completed his novel 1984. During this cruise, you will have great views over the hills of Jura, The Jura Pabs and the distilleries Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain on Islay.

The next destination is Tiree, to be reached after a day of sailing. Tiree, the westernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, known for its beautiful white-sand beaches and relatively high temperatures.
Wind and weather permitting, a walk of over 10km is available to the Ringing Stone. This walk is fairly flat and traverses the beautiful countryside of Dun Mòr broch and the Tràigh Mhòr beaches. Close to the berth, a short 2km walk is available.

If the voyage goes according to plan, the ship will sail on Thursday first via Barra either directly to St Kilda (wind and weather permitting).
On Friday, St Kilda will be visited. The St Kilda archipelago is the most important seabird breeding ground in north-west Europe and occupies first place on the World Heritage List. The world's largest colony of guillemots is on these islands, as are Britain's largest colonies of puffins and fulmars. In total, more than a million birds breed on the cliffs. For more information on the island's history and wildlife, Scotlands National Trust organises guided tours of the island.

In favourable weather and a prosperous voyage, Thalassa sails on to Stornoway the port town on Lewis. From Stornoway, a delightful and easy walk across the grounds of Lews Castle is available with great views over the bay (with the Thalassa as an eye-catcher). Lewis' Calanias Standing Stones is a 5,000-year-old cross-shaped set of stones that has been an important site for ancient mystical rituals for at least 2,000 years.

Another option as a destination is Tarbert ( the largest town on Harris , Outer Hebrides) and the day after to Loch Inchard, a beautiful Scottish bay. On Tuesday, the Orkneys will be visited if possible.

The trip ends in Scrabster on Tuesday evening when guests will leave the ship by 10am on Wednesday morning 28 August.
